Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to examine a controversial issue, whether political or publicly debated women’s health, obstetric, or neonatal, and present both sides equally. 

 

Student Approach to Assignment

The assignment was to choose a controversial topic in the field of obstetrics and display both sides of the argument equally. The topic chosen was skin-to-skin contact versus immediate assessment post delivery. Illustration of both sides is equally examined in the assignment. The ultimate goal of this paper is to provide research and insight on both sides to allow the reader to come to an informed decision.

 

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

This assignment was chosen to be included in my portfolio as it shows my ability to illustrate two opposing ways of providing immediate care in the obstetrics field of nursing. This paper portrays a non-bias opinion regarding the issue between skin-to-skin contact with the mother versus immediate assessment by the nursing staff. This assignment required the writer to eliminate a personal opinion on the subject and identify pros and cons to both perspectives of care. In the nursing field, I will be caring for diverse patients with potential opposing views therefore being able to eliminate my opinion will be essential.
