Pediatric Grand Rounds

NURS 421- Clin-Mgmt-Infants and Children

Purpose of Assignment
To provide the student an opportunity to integrate knowledge from the sciences, developmental theory and physical assessment data to the care of a pediatric client and family in the acute care setting.  The student will utilize critical thinking and independent judgments in presenting a holistic plan of care in a formal oral presentation.

Student Approach to Assignment

While in clinical, I realized that pediatric oncology was a passion of mine that I never knew I possessed. This area of nursing is challenging in a way that I had never experienced before. This assignment allowed me to gain more insight on acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) along with the interventions and treatments associated with the diagnosis. By understanding the diagnosis my patient had, I was able to coordinate a holistic plan of care that essentially fit her needs. By presenting this to my peers, I was able to educate them on what ALL is, along with how I implemented care for my patient.

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

This assignment is included in my portfolio primarily due to my passion for pediatric patients. I also included this in my presentation because this patient challenged me while in clinical ultimately enabling me to gain more knowledge and insight regarding ALL and pediatric oncology as a whole. The following end-of-program outcomes are identified below.
