About Me
My name is Katherine Babb, but I am known as Katie. I am a traditional nursing student at Old Dominion University anticipating to graduate in May of 2016 with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree. Prior to college, I was a student at Isle of Wight Academy from preschool through twelfth grade where I graduated with forty-nine other students. Being from the small town of Windsor, Virginia, I grew up on a farm in which my heart will always remain.
I chose nursing as my career path initially due to my interest in anatomy and for my love for people of all ages. I chose pediatric nursing as my passion from a personal experience I shared with the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Although this experience with CHKD was short, I was able to dive into the culture of the hospital and fully witness what it means to be a pediatric nurse. Upon starting school at ODU, I was chosen to be in the University Honor's College that requires additional course work before graduating from the university. In addition to this, I have become involved in multiple campus organizations throughout my time at ODU. I was also fortunate enough to travel abroad while being in the nursing program. I studied in Guatemala for Spring Break in 2014 among other nursing students, faculty members, and a dental hygiene student. While being a student at ODU, I have been awarded scholarships and achievement recognition such as the Monarch Scholarship each semester, the University Honor's College Scholarship each semester, University Dean's list recognition, and the College of Health Sciences Dean's list recognition. Lastly, in summer of 2015, I was chosen to participate in the paid Student Externship Program at CHKD where I gained experience and spent my summer in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
