Critical Care Clinical Case Study

NURS 451-Clin-Mgmt of Adult Health Nursing 111

Purpose of Assignment
The purpose of this case study is to integrate knowledge from the humanities and sciences, including nursing research and theory, to plan, provide, and evaluate holistic care provided to a client selected during this clinical rotation.

Student Approach to Assignment

The patient that I chose for this assignment was a 50 year old African American female who presented to the hospital for a heart transplant due to cardiomyopathy. She had an extensive history that put her at extreme risk postoperatively, ultimately making her an intricate patient that could enhance my growth and knowledge as a student nurse. Due to the complexity of her condition, I chose her case as my assignment topic to nourish my understanding about cardiac surgery and health. After I provided care for this patient, I felt more comfortable with patients in the critical care setting, assisting my growth as a future graduate from Old Dominion University.

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

The inclusion of this assignment in my portfolio is predominantly due to the fact that it is an individualized analysis of a complex patient assignment in the critical care setting of nursing. This assignment illustrates the care that I provided while in the hospital and also the different interventions that could potentially be implemented to better enhance her stay in the hospital. The following end-of-program outcomes are identified below.
